PACT TESTING HELPFUL HINTS!

1. Get enough sleep the night before a test and eat a good breakfast on test days!
2. Never jump right into the test. Take your time getting started. Read the directions twice. Underline important words that tell you what to do. Note whether every question is a one or two part question.
3. THINK and get your thoughts organized. To do well on this type of test, you need to do as much thinking as writing. Don't pressure yourself to begin writing immediately. Use the space they give you to get your main ideas and supporting facts in order.
4. Write neatly. They are not grading handwriting, but the graders must be able to read what you have written!
5. Be sure you have a main idea and supporting facts. Don't include everything you know, just enough to answer the question. The last sentence should conclude the paragraph by stating another version of your lead sentence.
6. Always take a few minutes to look over your paper after you are finished. Make sure you did all you were supposed to do. Reread what you have written to make sure it makes sense. Correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Make sure you answered what the test asked.
7. Be familiar with the following words. They could be used in the questions, and it will help if you understand what the question is actually asking you to do. DESCRIBE: Use words to make a picture EXPLAIN: Make something understandable, give reasons DISCUSS: Consider or investigate JUSTIFY: Use ideas and facts to defend a position (even if you don't agree with it) IDENTIFY: Name, list, or point out FILL IN: Write one or two words to complete the sentence.

From the Principal

Buford Middle School is "Racing to Success" this year! We have many activities planned around our NASCAR theme. Our primary focus this year will be reading. Our reading program is already in place and will impact every student at BMS. We invite parents, to visit with us, meet your child's teachers, and see our facilities. We are open to any suggestions that you may have that will improve our school. We are excited about the new year and hope your child is also. Let us hear from you!
